CISSE ON HIS WAY

You are here

Italian club Lazio could be interested in swapping former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse for Stuttgart midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic.

Djibril Cisse arrived with a lot of fanfare in the summer for about € 6 million, but he has struggled to settle in Italy. So far, he has scored only one goal in the league for Lazio, while his total goal tally stands at four. Hence, it is thought that Lazio are prepared to cut their losses by swapping the striker for a midfielder from Stuttgart.

Zdravko Kuzmanovic seems to have impressed the top management at Lazio sufficiently to warrant a potential swap deal involving Djibril Cisse.

This could potentially be a great move for both clubs given that Stuttgart are currently searching for a new striker in the market, while one of the areas where Lazio need a new player is in the midfield. So far, Kuzmanovic has not only demonstrated his potential domestically in Germany, but also has been excellent for his national team Serbia as well. He has 43 caps for Serbia, while he has managed to get five goals in these matches. Cisse is becoming nomadic nowadays and it is reflected by the number of clubs he has represented in the past.

Liverpool, Marseille, Sunderland, and Auxerre are some of the clubs Cisse has played for in the past. The swap deal, however, will not be easy given that a number of other clubs are also potentially interested in signing the 24-year-old Zdravko Kuzmanovic. Among them is Juventus, who are joint top of the Italian Serie A along with AC Milan at the moment.

The prestige and history of Juventus will be accompanied by the prospect of Champions League football next season. Hence, Lazio will face strong fight from Juventus, but Lazio are hoping that Cisse will smoothen the move.
