NOTTINGHAM FOREST LINKED WITH £7M-RATED DEFENDER BUT IT WOULD MAKE ZERO SENSE

Nottingham Forest could make a January swoop on Cremonese for defender Emanuele Valeri, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi. It’s been over two weeks since the Reds signed a new player and fans could be forgiven for getting withdrawal symptoms. The Reds look unlikely to make a raid on any more free agents and they will now wait until the January window opens. Forest signed 22 new players during the summer, including three left-backs. As a result, this link does seem somewhat odd.

Harry Toffolo, Renan Lodi and Omar Richards were all added in the summer. The latter is injured but he should be fit by the time January comes around. Signing Valeri doesn’t make much sense, although the player does seem to have a decent profile. He is only 23 and also has AC Milan and Lazio vying for his signature ahead of the mid-season transfer window reopening. La Repubblica claims that it will take around £7 million to sign Valeri from the newly promoted Serie A outfit.

The player would be suited to Steve Cooper’s 3-4-2-1 system and he’s been at Cremonese since 2020 when he signed from Cesena. During the current campaign, he’s taken to Serie A well, making six appearances and scoring a big equaliser against Atalanta. This one just smacks of an agent making up something to use as a bartering tool with other clubs. There is no way that Forest will sanction the signing of another left-back with three already in Steve Cooper’s squad.
With AC Milan and Lazio both preparing to swoop, the player’s agent will want to ensure his client gets the very best deal. Valeri looks like a good player and at 23-years-old he fits the Forest recruitment profile down to the ground. Ultimately, Forest won’t be in the market for a left-back in January and it looks highly unlikely that Valeri will be coming to the City Ground.
